Evolution – Director’s Cut

These tapes are part of my private collection and I’m happy to share them here. They were won in an auction dedicated to Star Trek.

This is the first Star Trek TNG episode from Season 3. It is called Evolution and was first aired in 1989. What makes this video special is that it is a non-public, preliminary cuts (director’s cut) of the episode. It lacks music and special effects, the voice-over is not done properly, you can sometimes hear the crew in the background, etc… it is also much longer than the broadcasted version of the episode, with extended scenes and different ones. Almost 52 minutes of material, and that’s without the theme song intro!

The tape is labeled “ST TNG #150 – Director’s Cut – 8/14/89″ and was almost 25 years old when it was digitized. I got the best VCR I could find on eBay and recorded the video as the highest bitrate possible. I then remastered the audio & video to improve the overall quality without damaging/modifying the original content. Of course, the source material is still an old VHS, which has half the resolution of a DVD at its best, so don’t expect anything close to the new hi-res BD releases. In fact, expect just the opposite. So, if you’re a trekkie and want to see special versions of a TNG episode you’ve never seen before, be my guest and click play.
